Archlight Cinema

Client: Olympic Studios Cinema

Location: Battersea Power Station

Brief: To transform the Battersea railway arches into a cinema comprising three distinct auditoriums, each offering a fully immersive and characterful experience.

The Archlight Cinema in Battersea transforms the vast, vaulted spaces beneath interlinking railway arches into an inviting 3-screen independent cinema. A warm, immersive design language was developed, featuring a rich palette of deep blues and greens and atmospheric lighting. To absorb the sound of the trains passing by, three-dimensional acoustic panels are installed on the curve of the arches together with Dolby Atmos 3D sound speakers to create a total immersive cinematic experience. The result is a cocooned subterranean retreat, a contemporary homage to the golden age of cinema and a bold counterpoint to the conventional multiplex.

Each cinema is defined by its own signature colour: Cinema 1 in midnight blue, Cinema 2 in deep sea green, and Cinema 3 in forest green. This layered palette gives each space a unique identity while maintaining a cohesive visual narrative throughout the venue.
