Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) - ‘Screen Worlds’ Opening Day!!

The world-renowned Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI, Melbourne) celebrates the moving image in all its forms – film, television, games, new media and art. Ab Rogers Design won the international competition to re-design the major galleries and their associated permanent exhibitions and function spaces, with a total area of 2500square-metres. In addition, Ab Rogers Design undertook a master planning exercise of the centre as a whole, identifying the need to restructure circulation across the site and create a new external façade and a dedicated entrance to the galleries.

The design concept was to create a series of strong, flowing landscapes and forms to create cohesion and unity among the hundreds of objects and screens on display. Specified materials range from natural bamboo, recycled artificial turf and fiberglass through to traditional leathers. Together, they create a sophisticated and unexpected palette. In line with ACMI’s environmental policy, we have sourced sustainable, local, low energy and recycled products to minimise the environmental impact of production.

And … here are some photos from the opening event which took place today in Melbourne.
