Al Ostoura

A new flagship luxury fashion store for Al Ostoura designed by KRD (Ab Rogers with Shona Kitchen) situated in the Sahab region of Kuwait City opened on the 31st March 2003.

Free standing tills connected to hanging rails and shelving, tardis like changing rooms and long dynamic tables offer themselves for display. The stores fabric has an inherently synthetic quality puntuated by these masculine forms which take on an effeminate quality through their pink colouring.

A series of animated kinetic 'mechanoids' bring the stores atrium to life. A dynamic synchronised performance of clothes and forms moving up and down, dancing and displaying themselves within this 16m high space. There is also a mysterious red tunnel connects the space punctuated by the abstract sounds of weather such as chilling arctic winds and cracking ice. They are alien to the arid Kuwaiti desert climate.
